On his way to work one morning in 1974 Joe Campo was sitting at the bus stop waiting for his bus to take him from his home in south Minneapolis to the airport. As a traveling sales man with two young children he didn’t like being away from his family every week. As he was sitting there the wind blew a piece of newspaper against his leg. Joe looked down and saw an article on that page about several liquor stores being moved due to hwy 94 being constructed…

Joe and Maryann Campo started South Lyndale Liquors in 1975.

Raised in Brooklyn NY, the Campo’s found Minnesota to not have the same diversity of food, wine that they had grown up with. Joe had a passion for wines and with their new idea; they worked tirelessly to find a location in their south Minneapolis neighborhood. South Lyndale Liquors was started in 1975. With the idea of bring fine wine and spirits to their neighborhood.

Since then, South Lyndale has been a cornerstone in the community. Putting hundreds of local kids through college, being active in many aspects of the community.

Looking to retire after over 30 years in his business, Joe handed his son Dan the reigns.

Dan Campo came in with a fresh vision for the family business. Growing up in south Minneapolis, watching his neighbor’s update their old homes, and the energy of the community continue to grow and develop. Matching the communities’ energy and the feel would require updating the old South Lyndale Liquors. Over the past several years Dan has spent much of his time Transforming South Lyndale into South Minneapolis’ premier boutique wine beer and spirits shop. Together with two brothers, wine buyer Mitch and spirits buyer P.J. Zavada, they have teamed up and expanded South Lyndale, bringing in hundreds of new products. Today South Lyndale boasts one of the largest selections of not only Wine but also Beer and Spirits in the state.
