New Brews 05/05/10
New This Week!
Some exciting new arrivals this week folks! Two micro breweries came to Minnesota this week and we received another order of some really cool stuff from Chisago Lakes Distributing and Shelton Bros. Imports. I will leave links for anyone who would like to read further about the brews/breweries.
From Shelton Bros. :
Nogne O Tiger Tripel - Norway
Mikkeller East Kent Goldings Single Hop IPA - Brewed at De Proef Brewery in Belgium
St. Somewhere Pays Du Soleil - Tarpon Springs, Florida - A funky, fruity, extremely aromatic Saison style ale from this Belgian style brewery in Florida.
Burgerbrau Dunkler Bock - Germany
Lowen Brau Bock - Germany
http://www.sheltonbrothers.com/beers/results.asp Some of these are not on the Shelton Bros page yet, but if you click the brewery name they usually leave a link to the brewery website.
Great Divide Brewing - Denver, Colorado - Hades Belgian Golden Ale 6pks, and Old Ruffian Barley Wine (we've had this before but not for a couple of years) - Another note on these guys: I am going to try to keep their lineup in stock all the time because they make some ridiculously good brews. All of it is pre-order besides the Titan IPA, which makes it difficult (especially if customers catch on to how good their beer is). So try not to yell at me if we run out of something you love for a week or so.
Odell Brewing Co. - Fort Collins, Colorado - New to Minnesota! They are sending their IPA, Amber Ale, Pale Ale and seasonal styles. Spring seasonal is an aggressively hopped Red Ale, and the summer seasonal is a nice, crisp and floral Extra Pale Ale. I lived in Fort Collins for a year, and these guys make some great beer. Including one of the best American Wheat Ales I have ever had. Unfortunately they are not sending it right off, but I will complain loud and often until they do. I'm not sure which of two seasonals listed we will get so you'll have to come by and find out later today. We will be hosting brewery heads on Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 to talk about and taste their great brews! http://odellbrewing.com/home
Great Lakes Brewing Co. - Cleveland, Ohio - Also new to the state. Brought us their Pale Ale, Porter, Golden Ale, IPA, and Amber Ale. Also 12pk Sampler pack. They don't make a summer seasonal so the first one will be Octoberfest. As much as I love Octoberfest season, I don't want to think about it yet, so I'll just enjoy the lineup they have now. http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/
And the winner of the week for most exciting arrival:
Schmaltz Brewing He'Brew Rye IPA on Rye - New York - They took their over the top hopped and malted Lenny Bruce R.I.P.A. Rye Ale and layed it down in Sazerac Rye whiskey barrels. Less than 200 hundred cases bottled for all of the U.S. (Schmaltz' brews are widely distributed coast to coast), Minnesota got eight. Thank you again Chisago Lakes Distributing! If you are a rye whiskey freak like myself, run to the store now as we only have eight bottles.
That's all for now. Another great week for Minnesota beer drinkers! Don't forget to stop by and taste Odell Brewing's lineup at 4:30 on Thursday. Tasting will last one hour. If you have to be late, don't worry, I'm sure we can get you a sample.
Thanks,
PJ

New Beer 04/15
Hey All, Here's what's new in the last couple of weeks:
Deschutes Brewing Co. from Bend, OR came to town with some great new brews. Famed Black Butte Porter and Mirror Pond Pale ale will be year round and a limited amount of their reserve series Black Butte 21 a porter infused with chocolate and coffee and Mirror Mirror barley wine are in. Yesterday we received some Hop Henge IPA, one of three in their rotating bomber seasonals. All brews are available in 22oz bombers only for now as they test the market, but i'm surre we will have the extent of their line-up in all packages in no time.
From New Holland Brewing in Holland, MI we have Envious, an ale fermented with pear then aged in oak with raspberries, part of their cellar series of bomber bottles. Also El Mole Ocho, fermented with dried chillies and coffee beans, a part of the high gravity series of bomers.
Grain Belt Nordeast from Schells Brewing, New Ulm, MN. We get whatever is available each week of this popular brew dedicated to our most beloved blue collar neighborhood. Goes fast!
Fox Barrel Ciders from Colfax, CA, was aquired by Minnesota's own cider company Crispin. This week their pear and black currant ciders arrived at the store. We are scheduled for a free in store tasting of these award winning ciders next Friday from 4pm - 7pm. 6 packs.
Mad River Brewing, Blue Lake, CA released their new seasonal four pack with Double Dread Imperial Red. Delicious!
And of course Surly Abrasive came in yesterday. A double IPA from Minnesota's most highly rated brewery. It's real aggressive! Abrasive will be around for only two weeks, so get your fill while you can, it sells rediculously fast for a $16 four pack. We take what we're alloted.
There are also plenty of other seasonal 4 and 6 packs flowing through the door every week so stop by and check out what's new. I'm super excited to announce that in two weeks, two fantastic breweries will be coming to town. O'dell Brewing from Fort Collins, CO., and Great Lakes Brewing from the Cleve, OH. I would leave links to their sites but I ran out of room and am especially green in the webmaster department. Plus, if you don't know how to use the google yet you probably wouldn't be reading this. Great time to be a beer lover in Minnesota! Check back in the next couple weeks for more new beer.
Thanks,
PJ
